In a thrilling announcement, renowned rock climber Alex Honnold is preparing to take on his most ambitious challenge yet - free soloing the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan. The 2-hour Netflix special, "Skyscraper Live," will follow Honnold as he attempts to scale the 101-story, 1,667-foot tower without any ropes or safety equipment.
Earlier this month, Honnold was spotted in Taipei conducting a practice climb of the Taipei 101, showcasing his extraordinary technical prowess and fearless approach. The daring ascent transformed downtown Taipei into an impromptu amphitheater as crowds gathered to witness the unprecedented feat. Taipei 101 management implemented rigorous safety protocols for the climb, ensuring all procedures were meticulously designed by professional teams.
The live event, set to air in early 2026, is being produced by Plimsoll Productions, a part of ITV Studios. The company has previously documented Honnold's feats for Disney+ and National Geographic. "Skyscraper Live" is being billed as Netflix's "latest global must-watch live event," with the streaming giant's VP of nonfiction series and sports, Brandon Riegg, stating that "watching Alex Honnold free climb Taipei 101 will be an adrenaline inducing spectacle that you can't look away from."
