Los Angeles Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper was forced to leave a game against the New York Rangers late in the first period after sustaining an apparent injury during a collision. The incident occurred when a Rangers player skated toward the net, making contact with Kuemper.
Kuemper, who was recently selected for Canada's Olympic roster, appeared to be evaluated carefully before heading to the locker room. Backup goalie Anton Forsberg took over between the pipes.
This situation marks a concerning development for Kuemper, as he had previously missed time in late December due to a hit to the head. He has since returned to play for the Kings, appearing in nine of their last eleven games. Kuemper is a seasoned veteran with a Stanley Cup victory in 2022.
