- He will defend multiple titles at the European Championships.

Daniel Wiffen is set to make his competitive return at the European Aquatics Short Course Championships in Poland, marking his first appearance in the pool since July. The Irish swimmer had been recovering from appendicitis surgery performed in August. He is scheduled to compete in the 25m event, aiming to defend the 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle titles he secured in 2023.
Wiffen leads a strong 12-person Irish contingent that includes Olympic finalist Ellen Walshe. Walshe, who previously won bronze in the 400m individual medley, has recently achieved six new Irish records in various events. Swim Ireland's interim national performance director, Andy Reid, expressed confidence in the team's preparation and their potential to perform well.
The championships commence with all 12 Irish swimmers competing on the first day. Wiffen will participate in the 400m freestyle heats, while Walshe starts in the 50m butterfly. Other notable Irish swimmers in action include Adam Bradley, Eoin Corby, Ellie McCartney, and John Shortt, across different disciplines.
