Dani Ceballos Rejects Marseille Move, Complicates Real Madrid Future
28 Aug
Summary
- Dani Ceballos rejected a move to Olympique Marseille
- Ceballos prioritized a return to his boyhood club Real Betis
- Real Betis unlikely to sign Ceballos due to transfer fee demands

As of August 28th, 2025, Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos finds himself in a precarious situation. Just weeks ago, it appeared that Ceballos was set to join Olympique Marseille, with the two clubs deep in transfer negotiations. However, the player has now rejected the move, seeing it as a step back in his career.
Ceballos has instead prioritized a return to his boyhood club, Real Betis, a team he has long desired to rejoin. According to reports, the 28-year-old has informed Real Betis through his representatives that he would be willing to leave Real Madrid for a fee of around €10-12 million, the same amount Marseille were prepared to pay.
Unfortunately for Ceballos, Real Betis have no plans to pay a transfer fee to sign him, despite his strong desire to return. The Verdiblancos do not currently see the midfielder as a priority signing, and the deal is unlikely to materialize this summer.
As a result, Ceballos may have dealt a significant blow to his own future. With the likes of Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono rising through the ranks at Real Madrid, the midfielder's place in the pecking order has become increasingly uncertain. While Xabi Alonso is expected to provide him with some playing time, Ceballos' long-term prospects at the Bernabeu appear bleak.
