Mavericks GM Search: Finley & Riccardi to Hold the Reins?
20 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Mavericks will likely wait until spring to name new GM.
- Co-interim GMs Finley and Riccardi to remain in charge through trade deadline.
- Previous lead executive experience is a key factor for permanent GM.
The Dallas Mavericks are adopting a patient approach to filling their general manager vacancy, with sources indicating a permanent successor is unlikely to be named for several months. Co-interim GMs Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi are expected to manage the team's front office through the upcoming February trade deadline, a pairing the organization is comfortable with as the deadline approaches.
The Mavericks are reportedly fielding offers for veteran players like Anthony Davis, but have signaled a desire to remain competitive this season. The team aims to conduct a comprehensive GM search this spring, allowing them to consider the widest possible range of candidates. Experience as a lead NBA executive is highly valued, particularly following past front-office decisions.
Both Finley, a seasoned NBA veteran with extensive front-office experience, and Riccardi, who joined Dallas from the Brooklyn Nets, are under consideration for the permanent role. However, the organization's focus is on a thorough process, suggesting a decision will not be rushed.
