Cowboys Eye Michigan DL Ray Benny Post-Odighizuwa Trade

The Dallas Cowboys, having recently traded defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa to the San Francisco 49ers, are reportedly considering Michigan's Ray Benny as a potential pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Benny met with the Cowboys on Thursday before his team's pro day.

Despite a turf toe issue, Benny demonstrated explosiveness at his pro day, recording a 7.55 three-cone and a 4.85 short shuttle. Projecting as a fifth-round pick, Benny is an athletic interior lineman with scheme versatility, noted for his run-stuffing abilities. However, his pass-rushing skills are considered less developed, suggesting early-down usage.

Given the Cowboys' existing strong interior pass-rushers, Benny's primary contribution would likely be in run defense, an area where the team struggled significantly in the 2025 season. His potential addition could provide much-needed depth on the defensive front, particularly for run-stopping scenarios.
