- Sandberg spent nearly entire career with Cubs, inducted into Hall of Fame

In the wake of the recent passing of former Chicago Cubs star and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, the team is honoring his legacy throughout the remainder of the 2024 season. On Tuesday, the Cubs debuted a special patch on their jerseys to commemorate Sandberg, who died following a long battle with cancer.
The blue patch, which features Sandberg's iconic number 23 and his signature, will remain on the team's uniforms for the rest of the year. Additionally, the entire Cubs clubhouse wore special shirts to pay tribute to the beloved player on Tuesday.
The Milwaukee Brewers are also planning a moment of silence for Sandberg ahead of their game against the Cubs at American Family Field on Tuesday night. Sandberg spent nearly his entire 16-year MLB career with the Cubs, save for a brief 13-game stint with the Philadelphia Phillies early on.
During his time with the Cubs, Sandberg was a 10-time All-Star, won 9 Gold Glove awards, and 7 Silver Slugger awards. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005, the same year the Cubs retired his number 23 jersey. Last year, the team also unveiled a statue of Sandberg outside of Wrigley Field.
