31 Jul
Summary
- Cubs designate 36-year-old pitcher Ryan Pressly for assignment
- Pressly has struggled in 2025 with a 4.35 ERA and 28 strikeouts
- Cubs add 2021 All-Star pitcher Taylor Rogers to replace Pressly on the roster

As the Chicago Cubs find themselves in a tight race for the National League Central division title, the team is making a significant roster move. According to reports, the Cubs are designating veteran pitcher Ryan Pressly for assignment.
Pressly, a 13-year MLB veteran, has spent the past seven seasons with the Houston Astros, where he established himself as a reliable closer. However, the 36-year-old has struggled this year, posting a 4.35 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 41.1 innings pitched.
To fill Pressly's roster spot, the Cubs are bringing in another former All-Star pitcher, Taylor Rogers. Rogers, who was an All-Star with the Minnesota Twins in 2021, has been traded twice in the past two days, most recently to the Cubs.
The Cubs, who currently trail the Milwaukee Brewers by one game in the division, are hoping that the addition of Rogers and the departure of the struggling Pressly will help them gain ground in the tight NL Central race.
