Armstrong's 39th Homer Lifts Cubs Over Brewers

Pete Crow-Armstrong's 39th home run proved decisive as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1. The Cubs salvaged a split in their four-game series against the division-leading Brewers. Kevin Gausman, acquired at the trade deadline, delivered an excellent start, allowing just one run over seven innings. He struck out nine batters and walked only one. The Brewers' rookie Logan Henderson, despite a strong seven-inning outing with seven strikeouts, saw his three-game winning streak end. Henderson retired 14 consecutive batters before Crow-Armstrong's go-ahead two-run blast in the third inning. Milwaukee's Andrew Vaughn hit a solo home run in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 2-1, but it was not enough.

The Cubs' bullpen closed out the game, with Ryan Zeferjahn and Ryan Rolison combining for a scoreless final two innings. Rolison secured his second save.
