Chilwell Returns, Timber Arrives: Palace Bolsters Squad

Crystal Palace has finalized their transfer window activities with the acquisitions of Ben Chilwell, Dario Osorio, and Quinten Timber.

Earlier on Tuesday, the club had already confirmed the arrival of Honest Ahanor on a season-long loan from Atalanta. Ben Chilwell, a 29-year-old left-back, returns to Palace permanently from Strasbourg after a successful loan spell in the latter half of the 2024-25 season, during which he made 11 appearances.

Quinten Timber, 25, joins from Marseille to strengthen the midfield. Dario Osorio, a 22-year-old right-sided forward, arrives from Midtjylland initially on loan, with the deal set to become permanent. This structure aids Palace in navigating UEFA Squad Cost Ratio rules.

These signings are part of a broader strategy that has brought 10 new players to the club this window. The intention is to provide manager Sage with greater squad depth, enabling improved performance in both the Premier League and the Europa League, especially after encountering injury issues last season.

The arrival of Osorio on loan initially allows Palace to manage upfront spending and spread their financial commitment. At 22, Osorio offers potential resale value and fits the club's criteria, with this deal being finalized on deadline day after earlier interest.

With Borna Sosa departing on loan, a left-back was necessary. Chilwell's return provides experienced cover for Tyrick Mitchell and is a homegrown player. Timber addresses the need for a central midfielder, offering competition alongside Adam Wharton and Daichi Kamada, as Jefferson Lerma is considered cover for center-back.

These strategic additions ensure good cover and competition across the entire squad, fulfilling the club's need for greater depth.
