His Super Bowl appearances came in 1982 and 1989, both against the San Francisco 49ers. In Super Bowl XVI (1982), Collinsworth led all receivers with 107 yards but also fumbled a crucial possession. The Bengals lost this game despite a second-half comeback attempt. Collinsworth retired after the 1989 season, never having won a Super Bowl. The Bengals would not reach another Super Bowl for over 30 years, and remain winless in the championship game.
