Cranston Western Softball Wins 4th Straight State Title

Cranston Western Little League Softball has once again proven its dominance, securing its fourth consecutive state championship. The 11- and 12-year-old all-stars clinched the title with a 6-1 victory over Cumberland in a winner-take-all game played in Lincoln.

The team displayed remarkable resilience, fighting back after an opening round loss to Cumberland. They avenged the defeat with a decisive 10-0 triumph, forcing the deciding championship game. Pitcher Aubrey Riker was instrumental, throwing two complete games and striking out 15 batters.

Hayden Cerio proved a tough out, reaching safely in all six at-bats across the two crucial games. Catcher Mila Castillo also provided significant offensive support, driving in four runs in the first championship game. This impressive performance earned them a trip to the New England regional tournament.

Cranston Western will now head to Bristol, Connecticut, for the regional tournament. They secured a bye and are set to play the winner of the Vermont-New Hampshire matchup on Sunday, July 19, at 7 p.m. The second-round game will be streamed on ESPN+.
