Now, with the preseason rankings released, Cowherd is doubling down on his Texas-Penn State title game pick. He remains skeptical of Michigan, dismissing them as "a lot of fools gold," and is unsure about LSU and the quarterback play at Ohio State and Georgia. In contrast, Cowherd believes Drew Allar at Penn State and the highly touted Arch Manning at Texas will lead their teams to the championship showdown.
Both Texas and Penn State made the College Football Playoff semifinals in 2024, with Penn State defeating SMU and Boise State before falling to Notre Dame, while Texas topped Clemson and Arizona State before losing to Ohio State. Now, with Manning set to take over at quarterback for Texas and Allar returning to Penn State, Cowherd sees these two programs as the top contenders for the 2025 national title, despite some remaining questions for both teams.
