Cowboys Eye Jets Pass Rusher Amid Injury Crisis
5 Nov
Summary
- Cowboys defense ranks last in total yards allowed per game.
- Rookie Malachi Lawrence faces a multi-week absence due to injury.
- Jets edge-rusher Kingsley Enagbare is a potential trade target.
The Dallas Cowboys are facing significant defensive struggles, currently ranking last in total yards allowed (385.4 per game) and 27th in points allowed (26.6 per game). Their pass rush has been particularly weak, sitting 31st in pass-rush win rate. The team's outlook on the edge further diminished following a recent overtime loss, with rookie edge-rusher Malachi Lawrence sustaining an ankle injury that could sideline him for several weeks.
In response to these challenges, owner Jerry Jones has indicated that trades could be imminent to bolster the defense. ESPN's Aaron Schatz has suggested the Cowboys target Jets edge-rusher Kingsley Enagbare. The 26-year-old Enagbare, in a contract year, is reportedly affordable and has demonstrated strong performance, ranking eighth in pass rush win rate and third in run-stop win rate among edges.
Enagbare's acquisition would provide immediate relief, especially given Lawrence's absence. He would add valuable pass-rushing versatility and run-defense prowess to a Cowboys unit that has struggled against both. Given the Jets' current record and Enagbare's contract status, a trade for a late-round pick is considered feasible, making him an attractive, cost-effective option for Dallas.
