Cowboys Sign Juanyeh Thomas Amidst Safety Crisis
30 Sep
Summary
- Cowboys sign Juanyeh Thomas due to multiple safety injuries.
- Thomas returns for his second stint, previously with the Colts.
- He brings veteran presence and special teams experience.
The Dallas Cowboys have brought Juanyeh Thomas back to the team, signing him on Tuesday to bolster their safety position. This move comes as the Cowboys face significant injuries at the position, with Malik Hooker nursing a forearm fracture and Jalen Thompson expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a hamstring injury. P.J. Locke is also on injured reserve with a foot issue.
Thomas enters his second stint with the Cowboys, having previously been with the team after going undrafted in 2022. He played in 16 games in 2023, logging 22 tackles and four pass breakups, and saw action in 13 games in 2024, recording 14 tackles. He was also a significant contributor on special teams.
After not being tendered as a restricted free agent, Thomas signed with the Indianapolis Colts in March but was released in August due to recurring migraine issues. His signing provides a veteran presence and much-needed depth for Dallas, currently relying on Markquese Bell and Alijah Clark at safety.
