Cowboys Secure 2026 NFL Draft Picks: No Crosby Trade!
8 Mar
Summary
- Dallas retains both first-round picks for the 2026 NFL draft.
- Maxx Crosby was traded to the Baltimore Ravens, not the Cowboys.
- Mock draft projects Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman to the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys are holding onto both of their first-round selections for the upcoming 2026 NFL draft. Initial speculation had linked the team to a potential trade for Las Vegas Raiders' star pass rusher Maxx Crosby. However, Crosby was ultimately traded to the Baltimore Ravens.
With the trade for Crosby off the table, the Cowboys are reportedly looking towards free agency to bolster their pass rush. Meanwhile, a new mock draft from Pro Football Sports Network's Ryan Guthrie offers insight into potential draft strategies.
Guthrie's projection sees Dallas selecting Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman with the 12th overall pick. Thieneman significantly increased his draft stock following a strong performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, showcasing his speed, athleticism, and range.
Thieneman, who began his college career at Purdue, accumulated eight interceptions and 14 pass deflections over three seasons. His selection would address a long-standing need for a game-changing safety for the Cowboys.
Following the potential acquisition of Thieneman, the mock draft has the Cowboys selecting Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell with another pick. Despite concerns about his size, Terrell is noted for his aggressive playstyle and production, including 21 pass breakups and eight forced fumbles at Clemson.
Terrell, who primarily played outside corner, could also provide versatility in the slot for Dallas. This move, combined with potential free-agent signings, aims to enhance the team's struggling defense and improve their turnover capabilities.
