Concussion Sidelines Lions Star Ringrose for Third Test
29 Jul
Summary
- Garry Ringrose ruled out of third British and Irish Lions Test due to lingering concussion impacts
- Ringrose disappointed to miss chance to earn first Test cap for the Lions
- Lions could be boosted by return of injured players like Joe McCarthy and Mack Hansen

Garry Ringrose, the Leinster and Ireland centre, will not feature in the third British and Irish Lions Test against Australia this weekend. Ringrose suffered a head injury during the Lions' win over the Brumbies in the lead-up to the first Test, ruling him out of the opening match against the Wallabies.
While Ringrose had been in line to return for the second Test last Saturday, he reported lingering impacts of the concussion while training last Thursday and was stood down from the side. The 30-year-old will now have to progress through the return-to-play protocols and observe the minimum 12-day stand down period, meaning he will be unavailable for the series finale.
This is a bitter blow for Ringrose, who was eager to earn his first Test cap for the Lions. "He's disappointed, as you can imagine," said assistant coach Andrew Goodman. "Garry was playing some amazing rugby through this tour and someone you know who it's been a dream of his for so long to represent the Lions and he's managed to do that."
However, the Lions could be boosted by the availability of some previously injured players, including Joe McCarthy, Mack Hansen, and Sione Tuipulotu, who all trained to a full extent on Tuesday. The coaching staff will now focus on selecting the best team to complete a 3-0 whitewash, which has not been achieved in the professional era.
