Blough Promoted: Commanders Tap New OC

David Blough is set to be promoted to offensive coordinator for the Commanders, according to reports from January 10, 2026. Blough has been an integral part of the coaching staff for the past two seasons, serving as the assistant quarterbacks coach. His immediate move into coaching followed the conclusion of his playing career in 2023.

This promotion sees Blough stepping into the shoes of Kliff Kingsbury, who was recently fired. Kingsbury's departure came as a surprise, particularly given the reported support he had from the team's starting quarterback, Jayden Daniels. The Commanders have experienced several coaching changes recently, including the earlier departure of quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard.

Blough's prior connection to the Lions, where he served as a backup quarterback for four seasons and played under notable offensive minds, adds an interesting layer to his ascent. The team also interviewed Lunda Wells and Drew Terrell for the offensive coordinator position before making their decision.
