Colts eye comeback for injured safety Jordan Whitehead

Veteran safety Jordan Whitehead recently underwent a workout with the Indianapolis Colts. This follows his recovery from a significant neck injury sustained in a car accident on January 4, 2025.

Whitehead suffered a cervical fracture in the accident, which occurred less than a mile from the Buccaneers' practice facility. He has since undergone neck surgery and received medical clearance to resume his NFL career.

The Buccaneers coach at the time, Todd Bowles, expressed support for Whitehead, noting his model citizen status and the unfortunate nature of the incident. Bowles emphasized the team's understanding and continued support for him.

Whitehead, originally a fourth-round pick by the Buccaneers in 2018, has a notable history. He played four seasons with Tampa Bay before signing with the New York Jets for two seasons, starting all 34 games. He returned to the Buccaneers in 2024.

The Colts have been actively strengthening their safety group during the offseason. They drafted A.J. Haulcy in the third round and signed Juanyeh Thomas and Jonathan Owens, with starter Cam Bynum also returning. Hunter Wohlers is also expected back after missing his rookie season.

While Bynum and Haulcy are projected starters, Whitehead's workout suggests the Colts are considering adding a proven veteran to their secondary. He has also reportedly worked out for the Houston Texans and is expected to meet with additional teams.
