- Gardner, 25, was 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year, 2-time Pro Bowler
- Colts (7-2) make big move to improve defense ahead of playoff push

On November 1st, 2025, the Indianapolis Colts made a blockbuster move to bolster their defense, acquiring star cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets. The Jets will receive the Colts' first-round picks in 2026 and 2027, along with 23-year-old wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, in exchange for the 25-year-old Gardner.
Gardner, who was the 4th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been a standout performer since joining the league. He was named the 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year and has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons. The Colts, who currently sit at 7-2 and are enjoying their best season since 2020, are hoping that adding Gardner will help them make a deep playoff run.
For the Jets, the trade signals a shift towards a defensive rebuild. Just hours before the Gardner deal, the team reportedly traded three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys. The Jets appear to be stockpiling draft capital as they look to retool their roster around young talent.
