Colts Coach Injured on Sideline After Wild Play

Indianapolis Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason sustained a knee injury during the final play of the team's preseason opener against the New England Patriots. The incident occurred on Thursday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, resulting in a 13-13 tie.

Coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Mason was injured when he was "rolled up right on the sideline on that last play." During a failed Hail Mary pass attempt by the Colts quarterback, players from both teams engaged in a shove that spilled over to the Indianapolis sideline, knocking Mason down.

The Zionsville, Indiana native, who is entering his fourth season as the Colts' special teams coordinator, was immediately attended to by medical staff. He is scheduled for further evaluation on Friday and in the coming days. Mason previously served as the special teams coordinator for Notre Dame in 2022.
