Colorado Buffaloes Lose Star RB Dallan Hayden Ahead of Season Opener
21 Aug
Summary
- Dallan Hayden, Colorado's top RB, to miss start of 2025 season
- Hayden dealing with hand injury, out for "a couple of weeks"
- Hayden was battling for starting spot, had impressive spring practice

As the Colorado Buffaloes prepare to kick off the 2025 season under new head coach Deion Sanders, they will be without one of their top offensive weapons. Redshirt junior running back Dallan Hayden is set to miss the start of the season due to a hand injury.
Hayden, who was named to the prestigious Doak Walker Award watchlist along with teammate Micah Welch, was expected to be a key part of the Buffaloes' offense this year. However, according to reports, Hayden will be "down a couple of weeks" with the hand issue.
This is not the first time Hayden has dealt with injuries during his time at Colorado. Last season, he missed two games after suffering a high ankle sprain. Despite the setbacks, Hayden has proven his abilities, combining for 130 carries, 663 yards, and six touchdowns in his previous two seasons at Ohio State.
With Hayden sidelined, the battle for the starting running back spot becomes more open. Hayden was competing with Welch, senior DeKalon Taylor, and redshirt senior Simeon Price for the top spot. Coaches had been impressed with Hayden's performance during spring practice, highlighting his "multi-dimensional aspect."
The Buffaloes will now have to adjust their plans for the season opener against Georgia Tech on August 29th, as they look to overcome the loss of their star running back. Deion Sanders and his staff will need to find a way to fill the void left by Hayden's absence and keep the Buffaloes' offense on track as they begin their new era in Boulder.
