- Winter transfer portal window cut from 15 to 10 days.

College football is on the verge of a significant offseason calendar transformation. The FBS Oversight Committee has proposed a new structure that would replace traditional spring football and summer workouts with 21 on-field practices. These practices would be spread across a maximum of seven weeks, with no single period exceeding five weeks. Additionally, preseason camp would be reduced from 25 to 21 practices within a 27-day period. These changes are designed to offer greater flexibility for coaches and adapt to the sport's evolving demands.
The winter transfer portal window, a key element in modern college football, is also slated for a reduction. Currently spanning 15 days, it would be shortened to 10 days, beginning on the first business day after January 1st. For the 2026-27 offseason, this means the portal would open on January 4, 2027, and close on January 13, 2027. Exceptions for players whose teams advance deep into the postseason, and for schools undergoing head coaching changes, will remain in place to ensure fairness and manage roster transitions effectively.
