- NCAA banned Sorsby for betting on his team at Indiana in 2022.
- University of Cincinnati is suing Sorsby over a NIL contract breach.

The University of Cincinnati athletic department has issued a statement refuting claims made by quarterback Brendan Sorsby's agent. The agent alleged that the school knew about Sorsby's gambling activities and failed to act. Cincinnati asserted that all student-athletes receive extensive gambling education and that they would never knowingly permit an athlete violating NCAA regulations to compete.
Brendan Sorsby was previously banned by the NCAA due to gambling, which included betting on his former team, Indiana, in 2022, and on professional sports. Sorsby subsequently dropped his legal challenge to play for Texas Tech this year. He recently declared for the NFL supplemental draft, an uncommon process for prospects not eligible for the main draft, aiming to accelerate his professional career.
Sorsby also underwent treatment for a diagnosed addiction and had previously pursued legal action against the NCAA for reinstatement, which led to significant controversy for Texas Tech. The University of Cincinnati is now suing Sorsby in federal court, accusing him of breaching his name, image, and likeness contract after his transfer to Texas Tech. Sorsby, who had a strong performance for Cincinnati last season, intends to contest the lawsuit.
