Titans Postpone Ring of Honor Ceremony for Chris Johnson
12 Sep
Summary
- Chris Johnson's induction into the Titans Ring of Honor was postponed.
- Johnson revealed in June that he has ALS, a neurodegenerative disorder.
- A halftime ceremony will still honor Johnson's career and legacy.
The Tennessee Titans have postponed the induction ceremony for former star running back Chris Johnson into the team's Ring of Honor. This decision comes as Johnson and his family are unable to attend the upcoming season opener. Johnson, who played for the Titans from 2008 to 2013, publicly shared in June that he is battling ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
The team released a statement explaining that while Johnson's induction is delayed, they will hold a halftime ceremony on Sunday to honor his career. Johnson was slated to become the 20th member of the Titans' Ring of Honor. Another inductee, Dave McGinnis, will be honored later in the season.
During his tenure with the Titans, Johnson amassed 7,965 rushing yards and 58 total touchdowns. In 2009, he was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-Pro honors after rushing for 2,006 yards and setting an NFL record with 2,509 yards from scrimmage.
