Froome Falls In: Fan Plunges Into Canal During Tour

Chris Froome, a four-time Tour de France champion, recently shared an unexpected event from his ambassadorial role at the race. While assisting a novice rider, Froome accidentally caused the cyclist to fall into a canal. The retired rider then plunged into the water to retrieve the fan's shoe.

Froome, who confirmed his retirement this month, spoke about his experiences as a former professional. He addressed the controversial topic of doping tests, noting that current stars like Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard have faced enhanced scrutiny, including late-night sample collections. Froome, who himself faced doping allegations and threats during his career, believes riders must embrace transparency to build confidence.

Recalling his past, Froome mentioned the hostility he sometimes faced from French fans, including death threats. He also touched upon the skepticism surrounding his victories, partly due to succeeding Lance Armstrong. However, he noted a positive shift in his relationship with the French public. Froome remains confident in current testing protocols, offering a buffer against accusations against top riders.
