Chennai is preparing for its 15th Dream Runners Half Marathon (DRHM) on July 19, attracting over 7,000 runners nationwide. The event kicks off with the 21.1km race at 4:30 AM from Napier's Bridge, followed by the 10km race at 5:15 AM, both commencing at the same landmark. The racecourse winds through iconic city locales including the Marina stretch, Santhome, Adyar Flyover, and Besant Nagar, concluding at Island Ground.
An expo will precede the main event, offering registered runners a chance to collect their race bibs and goodie bags. This year, the Dream Runners will honor Olympian and former Indian hockey captain Vasudevan Bhaskaran. The marathon is also dedicated to supporting vital charitable initiatives, focusing on prosthetic limb provision for amputees, specialized care for burn and acid attack survivors, and assistance for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Dream Runners, a prominent running collective in Chennai with 13 city chapters, emphasizes sustainability through plogging and zero food wastage efforts during the event. Traffic will be affected along the race route between 4 AM and 7:30 AM on race day. Funds raised will be presented to partner organizations during the expo.
