Jermall Charlo has been withdrawn from his scheduled WBA super middleweight title bout against Armando Resendiz. The fight, initially set for May 2, will now feature Jaime Munguia as Charlo's replacement. Munguia, a former junior middleweight champion, will face Resendiz for the title. This bout is part of an upcoming PBC Pay-Per-View event airing on Prime Video from the T-Mobile Arena.
Discussions for Resendiz to face Charlo began a month prior, after a proposed fight between Resendiz and Munguia fell through. Resendiz, who holds the interim title, was elevated to full champion status following Terence Crawford's retirement. Resendiz earned the interim title with an upset victory over Caleb Plant last May. Charlo had recently ended an 18-month hiatus by defeating Thomas LaManna.
Resendiz, aged 27, aims to validate his championship status against another prominent boxer in his first title defense. His momentum saw a setback after a stoppage loss to Elijah Garcia, but he recovered with a win against Fernando Paliza before his upset of Plant. Munguia, with a professional record of 45 wins and 2 losses, has not competed since his May 2025 unanimous decision victory over Bruno Surace. A post-fight test initially flagged a banned substance, but it was later confirmed as a false positive.
