Charlie Woods Falls Short in U.S. Amateur Qualifier

Florida State commit Charlie Woods did not secure a spot in the U.S. Amateur Championship. The 17-year-old golfer participated in a qualifying event at Ohio State University's Scarlet Course, where he posted a score of five-over 76. This result meant he missed the qualification by six strokes, marking a recent setback in his golfing journey.

Woods, who is expected to graduate high school next year, is now shifting his focus to the U.S. Junior Amateur, scheduled for later this month. His father, Tiger Woods, previously won the U.S. Junior Championship three times consecutively. Charlie Woods has shown promise, achieving 21st in the Rolex AJGA rankings after a victory last May, and has also competed in other notable junior tournaments.

Tiger Woods has expressed enthusiasm for his son's collegiate golf aspirations. He noted the significant changes in the recruiting process since his own college days, highlighting the impact of technology like cell phones on communication between coaches, players, and families. Woods committed to Florida State, following a different collegiate path than his father, who attended Stanford.
