Chamari Athapaththu Unsold in WPL 2027 Auction
29 Oct
Summary
- Chamari Athapaththu went unsold at the WPL 2027 auction in Kochi.
- The 36-year-old Sri Lankan captain had a base price of Rs 30 lakh.
- This is Athapaththu's second consecutive year going unsold at the auction.
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu faced another disappointment at the Women's Premier League 2027 auction held in Kochi. The experienced all-rounder, aged 36, went unsold as no franchise placed a bid for her services. Athapaththu had set her base price at Rs 30 lakh and was noted as the oldest player participating in this year's auction.
This outcome represents a significant setback for Athapaththu, who has a limited history in the WPL. She previously played four matches for UP Warriorz in 2024, contributing with both bat and ball. Despite being retained for the 2025 season, she left midway for international duty. The UP Warriorz released her before the 2026 season, leading to her going unsold in that year's mega auction as well. Athapaththu continues to be the sole player from Sri Lanka to have appeared in the WPL.
