Cavs Star Max Strus Needs His 'A' Game
24 May
Summary
- Max Strus struggled offensively in Game 2, scoring only five points.
- Strus's recent playoff three-point shooting has been below 35%.
- Cleveland needs Strus's emotional leadership and physicality.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are struggling to find a way to defeat the New York Knicks, suffering another disheartening loss in Game 2. The game slipped away from Cleveland in the second half, with the final score being 109-93.
A significant concern for the Cavaliers is their inability to convert good shot opportunities. Max Strus, a player who has shown impact in previous playoff games, particularly struggled in Game 2, missing crucial shots. He scored only five points in 26 minutes, shooting 1-7 from the field and 1-4 from beyond the arc.
Strus's renowned clutch shooting, especially from three-point range, has been inconsistent recently. In his last eight playoff games, he has shot above 35% from three only once. This level of performance is insufficient for Cleveland, especially with Dean Wade increasingly earning starting minutes.
The Cavaliers need more than just Strus's scoring; they require his playmaking and vocal leadership. Strus is known for his emotional intensity and willingness to make all-out efforts, traits that are vital for the team's performance.
Alarmingly, in his last nine playoff games where he played 25 or more minutes, Strus has scored 10 or more points in only two of those games. This trend is unacceptable for a player of his caliber.
To improve, Strus needs to find ways to be more effective, whether through better shot selection, more assists, or improved rebounding. The Cavaliers are best positioned to win when the 'playoff premium' version of Max Strus shows up. A balanced rotation between Strus and Wade, depending on game momentum, will be key.
