Golf Resilience: Maneth's Triumph Over Tragedy

Carter Maneth's golf career has been defined by profound personal loss and remarkable resilience. In April 2025, his father and paternal grandparents were tragically killed in a plane crash while en route to watch him compete. Maneth, who had previously struggled with the pressure of missed putts, withdrew from a tournament to be with his family.

Despite the immense grief, Maneth returned to competition, motivated by his father's passion for the game. He went on to win the 111th Arkansas State Amateur in June 2026, securing his first U.S. Amateur berth at Merion Golf Club. This event holds a special significance, as Merion shares a name with his late grandfather.

Maneth, now 23 and preparing for PGA Tour Q-School, has learned to play more freely, shedding the excessive pressure that once hindered him. He credits this shift for his recent success, including a record-breaking performance at the Sandestin Collegiate Classic and qualifying for the NCAA Columbus Regional as an individual. His coach lauded his professionalism and strength, noting that Maneth taught him more about being a man than any lesson he imparted.

The Jeff Maneth Memorial Open will be held on August 17, 2026, to support Arkansas charities and a scholarship fund. Maneth is expected to participate, aiming to win the U.S. Amateur shortly before the event. He now approaches each shot with discipline and acceptance, finding joy and success in playing freely.
