The Vancouver Canucks have bolstered their scouting department with the addition of veteran defenseman Jack Johnson. Johnson, who recently concluded his 19-season NHL career in the 2024-25 season, will serve as a pro-scout.
Johnson's career history includes being drafted third overall in the 2005 NHL Draft by Jim Rutherford, then General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes. Rutherford also re-acquired Johnson later, signing him as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
This move comes as the Canucks are beginning a significant six-game road trip along the east coast. Their journey commences tomorrow against the Buffalo Sabres, with their final game on this trip scheduled for January 15 against Johnson's most recent former team, the Columbus Blue Jackets.
