Cantona Blasts Man United Owners, Reveals Rejected Offer to Revive Club

In a recent interview, Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has unleashed a blistering critique of the club's current owners, accusing them of destroying the team's attacking identity. Cantona, who won four Premier League titles with United in the 1990s, has gradually fallen out of love with the club he once adored due to the actions of the new leadership.

Cantona, a long-time critic of the Glazer family, has now turned his ire on Jim Ratcliffe, the billionaire who purchased a 27% stake in the club in February 2024. Ratcliffe's cost-cutting measures have drawn widespread criticism, and Cantona reveals that he even offered his services to the new owner, hoping to help revive the club's fortunes. However, his offer was met with indifference, leaving the Frenchman feeling disheartened.

"I have many other passions and projects, but I thought that for two or three years I could maybe put those to the side and try to give something to this club, which has given everything to me," Cantona said. "But [Ratcliffe] didn't seem interested. I did what I had to do, so I don't feel guilty anymore. I tried my best."

Cantona's relationship with Manchester United has been rocky in recent years, particularly after the departure of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013. The Scot's exit and the subsequent changes in the club's leadership have left Cantona feeling increasingly disconnected from the team he once adored.

"Sir Alex Ferguson created a style of beautiful attacking football, which the new owners should have used. Instead, they destroyed it," Cantona lamented. He also criticized the club's decision to remove Ferguson from the payroll in 2025, calling it a "lack of respect" and a "totally scandalous" move.

As the new owners continue to reshape the club, Cantona's passion for Manchester United appears to be waning. "I support United because I really love United, but now if I was a fan and I had to choose a club I don't think I would choose United," he admitted. "I don't feel close to these kinds of decisions. They have another strategy, another project. Do I feel close to this project? I don't think so."
