The Montreal Canadiens are weighing a significant offseason move to acquire a top-tier second-line center, with reports suggesting a preference for New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier over Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin. Hischier is identified as a potential perfect stylistic complement to Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki, offering a strong two-way game and play-driving ability that aligns with the team's championship aspirations.

Larkin, who has requested a trade from Detroit, is also a consideration, bringing speed, scoring, and leadership. He currently has five seasons remaining on his contract with an $8.7 million cap hit.
