Cam Buffington has established himself as a standout player for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He delivered a game-defining performance with 15 tackles during the Cy-Hawk game, significantly contributing to the team's rivalry win.
Buffington's journey to prominence began in Winfield-Mt. Union, where he excelled in 8-man football. Despite this background, his transition to Iowa's linebacker position has been remarkably smooth. He was a highly-touted four-star recruit in the class of 2024.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz noted Buffington's rapid learning and execution on the field, highlighting his quick recognition and ability to accelerate. Buffington's physical attributes, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing nearly 240 pounds, align perfectly with the ideal linebacker profile.
Currently in his third year, Buffington's on-field impact is exceeding early projections. He saw limited action in 2025 and did not play in 2024, but his development this season has been exceptional. Ferentz expressed confidence in Buffington's future, calling him a "good young prospect" and "great young person."
