Pistons Star Cade Cunningham Suffers Collapsed Lung Injury
19 Mar
Summary
- Cade Cunningham diagnosed with a collapsed lung after Tuesday collision.
- He will miss time, impacting Detroit's playoff push.
- Isaiah Stewart also sidelined with a calf strain.

Detroit Pistons' All-Star guard Cade Cunningham has been diagnosed with a collapsed lung, a development confirmed on Thursday. This injury stems from an incident during Tuesday's game against the Washington Wizards, where Cunningham collided with rookie Tre Johnson. Initially reported as back spasms, further testing revealed the more severe collapsed lung.
Cunningham's absence creates a void for the Pistons, who are currently the top team in the Eastern Conference with a 49-19 record. They have 14 regular-season games remaining before the playoffs begin. Daniss Jenkins and Marcus Sasser are expected to step into larger roles during Cunningham's recovery.
The team is also dealing with another key player's injury, as big man Isaiah Stewart is currently sidelined with a left calf strain. Stewart is scheduled for re-evaluation next Tuesday. Cunningham's averages this season include 24.5 points, 9.9 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals over 61 games.
