22 Oct
Summary
- BYU leads the Big 12 with an undefeated record.
- Quarterback Bear Bachmeier ranks 8th in Heisman odds.
- Bachmeier is 5th on CBS's College Football QB Power Rankings.
The BYU Cougars are currently atop the Big 12 conference with an undefeated record, yet they remain largely out of the national spotlight. This lack of attention is viewed positively by the team, allowing them to concentrate on a week-to-week approach to the demanding football season. Their undefeated status places them among conference leaders alongside Texas Tech and Utah.
Despite the team's subdued national profile, quarterback Bear Bachmeier is gaining individual recognition. He has entered the conversation for the Heisman Trophy, currently ranking 8th in odds, and secured the 5th spot on CBS Sports' College Football Quarterback Power Rankings. This individual success highlights Bachmeier's dual-threat capabilities and ability to extend plays, positioning him as a significant asset for BYU.
Bachmeier's placement on these lists is notable, especially on the quarterback power rankings where he is ranked above several players projected higher for the Heisman. CBS's ranking emphasizes team success, placing Bachmeier among quarterbacks leading strong playoff contenders. The focus for Bachmeier and BYU remains on team performance and winning crucial games, particularly the Holy War, rather than individual accolades.
