As the BWF World Championships, New Delhi 2026, approach, Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Badminton Association of India president Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the tournament's mascot, Peacko, and its official anthem. Peacko, inspired by the Indian Peafowl, creatively merges symbols of India, Delhi, and badminton, featuring a unique skirt resembling an open shuttlecock.
The championship anthem aims to unite India's 16-member contingent, including prominent players like PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and the doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. This musical piece draws heavily from Delhi's vibrant street rap culture, reflecting India's contemporary artistic expressions.
Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the event as a milestone, underscoring India's growing influence in badminton and its commitment to world-class sports infrastructure. Dr. Sarma emphasized the significance of the tournament returning to India after 17 years, expressing confidence that it will foster a lasting legacy for the sport.
New Delhi is set to host over 400 badminton players from more than 50 countries between August 17 and August 23, 2026. India's strong contingent includes five-time World Championships medalist PV Sindhu, alongside former medalists and emerging talents.
