Bumrah Rested: BCCI Prioritizes Pacer Over Vijay Hazare Trophy
24 Dec
Summary
- Jasprit Bumrah exempted from Vijay Hazare Trophy due to workload management.
- Bumrah underwent back surgery in 2023 and has injury concerns.
- Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja will participate in the tournament.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not be featuring in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India prioritizes his workload management. This exception comes despite a directive for Indian players to participate in at least two domestic matches. Bumrah's history of injury, including back surgery in 2023, has led the team management to prioritize rest over domestic participation given India's packed white-ball calendar ahead.
India faces a busy schedule, including a series against New Zealand starting January 11, followed by the T20 World Cup campaign commencing on February 7. Bumrah has recently been involved in multiple series, including the Asia Cup, home Tests against West Indies and South Africa, tours to Australia, and a home T20I series against South Africa. His inclusion in the T20I series against South Africa saw him pick up four wickets in three matches.
While Bumrah rests, other notable cricketers will be in action. Gujarat's left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who missed recent T20Is due to illness, is expected to play. Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will represent Saurashtra in their opening matches on January 6 and 8, adding further star power to the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
