BCCI Prioritizes Test Cricket: Bumrah's Heavy Load

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is urging the Indian team to place greater emphasis on Test cricket. As part of this renewed focus, bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been advised to participate in all remaining matches of the current World Test Championship cycle.

India's current standing at sixth place in the WTC points table highlights the need for a strategic shift. To achieve better results, the BCCI is willing to have Bumrah miss some ODI series, even with the next 50-overs World Cup less than a year and a half away. This approach acknowledges Bumrah's crucial role in the 2025-26 WTC cycle.

Managing Bumrah's workload has been a recurring concern due to his history of injuries. Previously, he missed significant periods after playing all five Tests in Australia. To ensure his availability for upcoming WTC fixtures, including two Tests in New Zealand and the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, selectors may opt to rest him from specific ODI engagements.

Bumrah is expected to feature in the upcoming Test matches in Sri Lanka and New Zealand, followed by the home series against Australia. While balancing his fitness for these crucial Test assignments, the selectors are amenable to resting him from certain limited-overs series. This strategic management aims to keep Bumrah fit and effective for India's long-term Test cricket goals.
