The Bulls, led by a career-high 32 points from Josh Giddey, along with 26 points from Nikola Vucevic, improved to 5-0 on the year, their best start since the 1996-97 season when they went on to win the NBA Championship.
The game was a high-scoring affair, with both teams relying heavily on 3-pointers. The Bulls hit 17 of 37 from beyond the arc, while the Knicks converted 18 of 45 attempts. Chicago also outshot New York overall, connecting on 53.6% of their field goals compared to the Knicks' 49.5%.
The Bulls opened a 72-53 lead at halftime, but the Knicks mounted a strong comeback in the second half. Jalen Brunson scored 29 points and OG Anunoby had 26 to help the Knicks close the gap to just two points midway through the fourth quarter. However, Vucevic and Giddey made key plays down the stretch to secure the victory for the Bulls.
The win was also a milestone for Bulls head coach Billy Donovan, who earned his 200th coaching victory with the team. The two teams will meet again on Sunday in New York.
