Brundle Calls for Penalty on Verstappen's Mexico GP Antics

In the aftermath of the Mexico City Grand Prix, motorsports commentator Martin Brundle has criticized the FIA's handling of the race, particularly in regards to Max Verstappen's actions on the opening lap.
Brundle states that Verstappen, the reigning four-time world champion, should have received a penalty for his maneuver at turn 1. After running wide on the outside, Verstappen bypassed turns 2 and 3, rejoining the circuit in a better position. Brundle argues that Verstappen made "no effort whatsoever" to make the corner, and that his actions should have warranted a penalty as a "deterrent to stop the silliness."
The FIA ultimately did not penalize any of the five drivers involved in the turn 1 incident, drawing criticism from some fans for their lack of consistency. Lewis Hamilton, however, was penalized for leaving the track and gaining a lasting advantage on lap 6 while battling Verstappen.
Brundle believes the FIA should have taken a firmer stance, stating that he "might even have given somebody doing what Max did, a drive-through, as a proper deterrent." The commentator argues that Verstappen's maneuver, regardless of which driver committed it, should have resulted in a penalty to discourage similar actions in the future.
