On October 9th, 2025, the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars announced a trade involving their starting cornerbacks. The Browns have sent Greg Newsome, their 2021 first-round pick, to the Jaguars in exchange for Tyson Campbell.
As part of the deal, the two teams have also swapped late-round 2026 draft picks. Newsome, 25, is playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract this season and will become a free agent next summer. Campbell, also in his fifth NFL campaign, recently signed a four-year, $76.5 million extension with the Jaguars before the 2024 season.
Through the first five weeks of the 2025 season, Newsome has recorded 23 total tackles and five pass breakups for the Browns, while Campbell has 34 tackles, six pass breakups, and a forced fumble for Jacksonville. The trade represents a change of scenery for both veteran cornerbacks as they approach the end of their current contracts.
