Bronny James Outperforms NBA MVP Jokic in Preseason Assists

Bronny James has emerged as a surprising playmaker in the NBA preseason, currently leading the league in total assists. Across three games played as of October 10, 2026, James has recorded 13 assists, surpassing notable players such as Nikola Jokic, Tyus Jones, and Dalen Terry, who each have 12. Despite James leading in total assists, Jokic and Jones boast a higher assists-per-game average in their limited preseason appearances.

While James' ball-handling and passing skills have been on full display, his overall game needs refinement. The team is looking for improvements in his defense and three-point shooting. His performances have also reportedly garnered attention, with speculation arising about potential trade interest should the Lakers decide to make him available. His role may be defined by his ability to contribute beyond primary ball-handling, especially with other key players on the roster.
