Rookie WR Katsis: A Returner's Chance?

Rookie wide receiver Kolbe Katsis, wearing No. 81, is vying for a spot on the Denver Broncos' 53-man roster. Katsis, who signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 NFL draft, brings a diverse collegiate background. He initially played at Pittsburg State from 2021-2023, excelling as both a receiver and kick returner, earning multiple All-MIAA honors. He then transferred to Northern Arizona for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, where he had a standout 2025 campaign. In that season, Katsis recorded 60 receptions for 1,068 yards and 10 touchdowns, in addition to significant kick return yards and a touchdown, garnering national All-Purpose Player accolades.

Despite his impressive college statistics, Katsis was not drafted in the 2026 NFL draft. However, the Denver Broncos staff recognized his potential, particularly as a return candidate, and signed him as an undrafted free agent. He is expected to make his preseason debut this summer. His path to the active roster is considered a long shot at wide receiver due to the team's depth at the position. Nevertheless, Katsis has a notable chance to secure a roster spot as a return specialist, a role for which Denver's special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi apparently holds a strong positive view.
