Broncos Weigh Options to Offload Surplus Running Backs
21 Aug
Summary
- Broncos have 6 RBs, may only keep 4 on roster
- Teams like Saints, Browns, Chiefs interested in acquiring RBs
- Broncos also have depth at CB, DL, and S, could trade from those positions
As the Denver Broncos prepare to finalize their 53-man roster before the start of the 2025 NFL season, the team is weighing its options to offload some of its surplus running backs. According to reports, the Broncos currently have six running backs on their roster - J.K. Dobbins, RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin, Tyler Badie, Blake Watson, and Audric Estime.
However, head coach Sean Payton has indicated that the team will likely only carry four running backs on the active roster. This has led to speculation that the Broncos may look to trade one or more of their running backs in the coming days.
The New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns, and Kansas City Chiefs are among the teams reportedly interested in acquiring a running back from the Broncos. Denver general manager George Paton could look to capitalize on this demand and ship out a player like Dobbins or Harvey before the roster cuts next week.

In addition to their backlog at running back, the Broncos also have depth at cornerback, defensive line, and safety. The team may consider trading players like Damarri Mathis, Jordan Jackson, or Eyioma Uwazurike to address other roster needs.
