Broncos' QB3 Ehlinger Impresses in Preseason Finale

As the Denver Broncos approach the 2025 NFL season, the team's quarterback situation is taking shape. Bo Nix is set to return as the starting QB, with Jarrett Stidham serving as the backup. However, the Broncos' third-string quarterback, Sam Ehlinger, has made a strong case for himself during the preseason.

In the Broncos' final preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on Saturday, Ehlinger shone, going 22-of-31 passing for 198 yards and rushing six times for 25 yards. The 26-year-old quarterback also threw one touchdown pass and one interception, leading the Broncos to a 28-19 victory.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton was impressed with Ehlinger's performance, praising the young quarterback's "moxie and leadership." Payton noted that Ehlinger's athleticism and playmaking ability were on full display, recalling his impressive college career, including a big bowl game win over Georgia.

Nix, the Broncos' starting QB, was also pleased to see his teammate succeed in the preseason. "Sam's great," Nix said. "He's a great teammate first and foremost. He shows up to work like he's the starter, and I'm excited to see him succeed."

While the Broncos' final 53-man roster prediction has them carrying only Nix and Stidham as the active quarterbacks, Ehlinger's strong preseason showing could make him an attractive option for the practice squad or even another team's active roster. The young quarterback remains hopeful, stating, "I love being here and I love this quarterback room, and I love this team. I am excited for the direction this organization is headed."
