Summary

- Matos fills void left by injured right-handed hitters Chourio and Vaughn.
- Chourio and Vaughn suffered hand fractures early in the season.
The Milwaukee Brewers significantly bolstered their roster on Monday by acquiring outfielder Luis Matos from the San Francisco Giants. The transaction, involving cash considerations, addresses the Brewers' pressing need for a right-handed hitter.
Matos arrives to fill a crucial void created by recent injuries to key right-handed hitters Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn. Chourio sustained a left hand fracture on Opening Day after being hit by a pitch on March 4. Vaughn also suffered a broken hamate bone in his left hand on Opening Day and is expected to undergo surgery soon.
In a corresponding move, the Brewers designated left-handed pitcher Sammy Peralta for assignment. Matos, 24, brings a career .231/.281/.369 slash line over three Major League seasons and was previously a Top 100 prospect. Last season, he played in 57 games for San Francisco, hitting eight home runs in 172 at-bats.
