Braves urged to cut Jurickson Profar loose
21 Mar
Summary
- Jurickson Profar's season-long ban for PEDs was upheld.
- The Braves are advised to release Profar and absorb the financial loss.
- Atlanta may seek an outfield bat or starting pitcher due to roster flexibility.

Jurickson Profar's appeal has failed, and his suspension for the entire 162-game season for a PED violation has been upheld. He forfeits $15 million in salary for this season and is owed the same amount next season. Major League Baseball previously announced Profar tested positive for PEDs, marking him as the sixth player to receive a full-season ban since 2014.
Despite the financial implications, insider Ken Rosenthal has advised the Atlanta Braves to release Profar and absorb the loss, stating he has "compromised them enough." This move would clear Profar's contract, providing Atlanta with financial flexibility. The Braves could then use these funds to acquire a new player, potentially addressing needs in their starting rotation or outfield.
The Braves' current rotation includes Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, Reynaldo López, and Grant Holmes, with Bryce Elder as the likely fifth starter. For outfield reinforcements, Dominic Smith, currently in camp, could be an option against right-handed pitching. Rowdy Tellez was also signed to a minor league deal, though he may require time in Triple-A.
